Title: Research Associate
Position Summary: Sylvatex, a fast-growing nano-technology startup, is seeking an energetic team player to conduct research and development and support technical operations. The role has cross-functional responsibilities working closely with others to determine formulation – property performance behaviors, establish process efficiency, and troubleshoot product failures. The ideal candidate is a self- starter with project management skills who can handle multiple objectives in a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities: Time spent on each task will shift from time to time
-50% of time spent:
-Working on individual projects in the lab. This may include:
-Testing the stability and other physical characterizations of various formulations
-Preparing large batches of samples for testing
-Utilizing new raw material inputs
-Exploring new applications to expand the company’s technology platform
-30% of time spent:
-Ensuring Proper Documentation: Data storage, recording, reporting
-Managing chemical, equipment, and supply purchases and inventory and testing requests
-Interacting with external testing labs and partners
-20% of time spent:
-Supporting other company operations as needed
-Appropriate academic training and 3 years plus of chemistry experience in relevant field.
-Hands-on and laboratory experience
-Experience working directly with a start-up/ early stage environment
-Equivalent industry experience or a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
Sylvatex is based in San Francisco with laboratories at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and USDA Albany. Sylvatex is leading the development of renewable micelle applications across a myriad of commercial applications. Initially started as a biofuels company, Sylvatex has evolved to develop a micelle technology platform that harnesses the power of nanotechnology to improve sustainability in current commercial applications.
